Worker Hurt in Reported Industrial Accident in the City of Hamilton [Updated]

Around 8:45am Sunday, May 19th an industrial accident was reported in the City of Hamilton.

It appears that a male worker was refuelling a crane in the Church Street, Washington Lane area when some of the fuel spilled and somehow ignited.

Apparently the fire was extinguished just prior to the arrival of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

The worker involved, said to be a 48 year old Warwick man, is understood to have sustained minor burns to his hands – but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Temporary traffic diversions were in effect for just over an hour as a precaution and the Government Health and Safety Officer was notified.

Update: Monday, May 20th - It now appears that the industrial accident that occurred around 8:45am Sunday, May 19th involved a 48 year old male worker refuelling a power washer that was being used to clean the windows of Washington Mall in the City of Hamilton.

Apparently fumes from the fuel ignited and some fuel spilled, which also caught fire, with flames spreading to a nearby hydraulic lift.

However, colleagues of the worker involved managed to quickly move the hydraulic lift and extinguish the fire.

The 48 year old man is understood to have sustained minor burns to his hands – but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Temporary traffic diversions were in effect for just over an hour as a precaution and the Government Health and Safety Officer has been notified.

Witness Appeal: Female Rider Injured in Paget Crash Friday Night [Updated]

Around 10:30pm Friday, May 17th police and fellow first responders were dispatched to a reported scooter crash at the junction of Stowe Hill and The Lane in Paget.

The circumstances of this incident are unclear and details remain limited at this time.

However the rider involved, said to be a 22 year old Pembroke woman, apparently sustained a head injury as well as injuries to her body.

She was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment and at last check she remained at the hospital for further medical care and assessment.

Her injuries were not believed to be life threatening, but an update on her medical condition is anticipated in due course.

Update: Monday, May 20th - At last check this morning (May 20th) the 22 year old female scooter rider injured in a crash around 10:30pm Friday, May 17th at the junction of Stowe Hill and The Lane in Paget was recovering in stable condition on a general ward at the hospital.

Details remain limited at this time and inquiries continue to ascertain the circumstances of this incident.
