Update: The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank members of the public, who provided assistance with the ongoing investigation into an attack on an off duty police officer in the car park at Clearwater Beach at around 4:30 this afternoon.

Stephen Corbishley, Commissioner of Police, in expressing his concern to this incident stated:

“This was an unprovoked and violent attack on a police officer who identified himself as such to persons who were acting anti-socially and with potential danger to members of the public.

The attack on a police officer will be pursued robustly by the BPS not least as he is representative of law and order in Bermuda and to send a clear message to persons who choose to be violent against anyone, whether it be a member of the public or a police officer, that they will be arrested and presented before the courts.

Most notably the attack on the officer was in the presence of his family and the trauma they have suffered in seeing a loved one violently assaulted cannot be underestimated and makes this attack all the more serious and despicable.”

Information provided by members of the public in relation to this unprovoked attack, has already led to a number of persons being taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing and again, anyone with information is asked to contact the main police number, 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477.
