Temporary Closure of Somerset Police Station Due to Roof Damage

Due to roof damage sustained during Hurricane Humberto, Somerset Police Station has been closed to the public until further notice and police personnel that were working at that location have been temporarily relocated to the Dockyard Marine & Community Policing office.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

A full assessment of the damage is taking place and members of the public are advised to avoid the property until the building is fully repaired.

In the meantime, western parish residents can always call the main police telephone number 295-0011 for assistance or visit the Dockyard police office, located at 2 Sally Port Lane, North Basin, Royal Naval Dockyard – next to the Makin’ Waves store.

Traffic Advisory: Paget Traffic Lights Not Currently Working

Motorists are advised that the Paget traffic lights are not currently working.

Until they are repaired, police officers will monitor the junction of Middle Road and South Road in Paget. The patience and cooperation of the motoring public is appreciated.

Update: Paget traffic lights are working again.

Sudden Death in Pembroke

Around 8:55pm Thursday, September 19th police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and ambulance personnel responded to a reported sudden death at a Cheriton Lane, Pembroke residence.

On arrival CPR was being performed on a 52 year old woman by a relative, with police and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel joining in the lifesaving efforts – which continued as she was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

Sadly, the woman was later pronounced dead at the hospital. No further information regarding the deceased will be provided at this time, pending next of kin notification.

There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a cause of death is being examined.

Update: Sunday, September 22nd - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 52 year old Shaune Simmons and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service and ambulance personnel responded to a Cheriton Lane, Pembroke residence around 8:55pm Thursday, September 19th where CPR was being performed on Ms. Simmons by a relative.

Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene by the family member, police and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel – which continued as she was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance – Ms. Simmons was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Foul play is not suspected and a cause of death is being examined.
