The Bermuda Police Service (BPS), is aware of a video being circulated on social media depicting sexually explicit scenes, which appears to have been recorded on one of Bermuda’s beaches – although this has not been confirmed.

Section 197 of the Criminal Code Act 1907 states: “Any person who wilfully and without lawful excuse does any indecent act in any public place is guilty of a summary offence and is liable to imprisonment for five years.”

The matter is now under investigation by the BPS Vulnerable Persons Unit (VPU).

It’s unclear when the video clip would have been recorded and we are asking that anyone with information about it to please call 211 or the main police number, 295-0011.

Further, we urge that should you receive the video, you delete it and not share it on.

Also, it should be noted that Section 53(1)(a) of the Telecommunications Act 1986 states that improper use of a public telecommunication service involves any person who sends, by means of a public telecommunication service, a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character commits an offence.

Punishment on summary conviction: imprisonment for 1 year or a fine of $2,000 or both such imprisonment and fine.
