Roads Policing Unit: 21 Collisions Reported Over the Weekend

There were 21 collisions reported over the weekend – 10 reported as damage only, 8 reported as minor injury and 3 reported as serious injury. In addition, 4 people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 39 speeding tickets were issued, with the highest speed recorded at 102 kph. Police continue to be highly visible on the island’s roads, conducting a series of road safety initiatives. However, the public must also do their part and take personal responsibility for their driving and riding behaviours.

Condition Updates: Two Riders Remain in the Intensive Care Unit

At last check earlier this morning (December 4th) the 16 year old female rider hurt in a single vehicle auxiliary (50cc) cycle crash that occurred along South Road, Paget in the vicinity of Southcote Road around 7:55pm Friday was in stable condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. The 16 year old female pillion passenger involved also attended the hospital but apparently later left of her own accord.

At last check earlier this morning (December 4th) the 58 year old man believed to be from Paget hurt when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck along Wilkinson Avenue, Hamilton parish around 2:30pm Friday was in stable condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

And at last check earlier this morning (December 4th) the 37 year old man believed to be from Hamilton parish hurt in a single vehicle motorcycle crash along North Shore Road, Hamilton parish near Limehouse Lane around 4:40pm Friday had been treated at the hospital and later discharged. Inquiries regarding all three collisions continue.

Two Car Collision on North Shore Road in Smith’s Parish

Around 7:45pm Sunday, December 3rd police and first responders were dispatched to a reported two car collision along North Shore Road, Smith’s parish in the area of Flatts Village.

Two people were initially trapped in one of the vehicles involved but were later extracted, conscious and breathing. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening and an update on the condition of both individuals is anticipated in due course.

Traffic was diverted away from the area until the scene was processed and the damaged cars towed away. Inquiries continue and any witnesses are asked to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.
