Reported Serious Collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish [Updated]

Around 1:45pm Thursday, September 5th several 911 calls were received regarding a serious collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Cottage Hill Road.

It appears that a visitor on a rental scooter collided with a heavy truck in the vicinity of the Dub City Variety store.

CPR was performed at the scene before the injured visitor was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

Traffic diversions are currently in effect while the scene is being processed.

Any witnesses to this collision are encouraged to call 295-0011 as soon as possible.

3:15pm Update: Sadly, despite lifesaving efforts the female visitor involved, said to be a 49 year old American woman, has been pronounced dead at the hospital.

No further information regarding the deceased will be released at this time, pending next of kin notification.

A full investigation regarding this road fatality, the sixth for 2019, is underway and any witnesses are now urged to call the main police telephone number 295-0011 as soon as possible.

4:10pm Update: Traffic diversions are no longer in effect. Investigation continues.

Update: Saturday, September 7th - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 49 year old American visitor Mrs. Jamie Kopp and extends sincere condolences to her husband, family and friends.

It appears that around 1:45pm Thursday, September 5th Mrs. Kopp and her husband were riding separate rental scooters west along North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Cottage Hill Road – with Mrs. Kopp traveling behind her husband – when she was involved in a collision with a water truck being driven in the opposite direction.

Mrs. Kopp was seriously injured and despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, which continued as she was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, her death was later certified at the hospital.

Mrs. Kopp’s husband and the water truck driver were not hurt.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist Mrs. Kopp’s loved ones at this difficult time.
