Fourteenth Road Fatality for 2017: Mendell Outerbridge

Fri, 2017-11-10

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can now confirm the death of 34 year old Mendell Outerbridge and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Outerbridge, said to be from Warwick, was riding a motorcycle along Middle Road, Sandys around 9:50pm on Thursday, 9th November.

Police officers were conducting laser speed checks at the time and an officer on foot signalled him to stop. Mr. Outerbridge failed to stop and a police vehicle pursued after him, but the rider quickly eluded the police.

Police officers searched the area to locate the motorcyclist, and a short time later they came upon the fatal scene where Mr. Outerbridge’s cycle had collided with a truck on Somerset Road near the 'Lantana' property.

Mr. Outerbridge was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ‎ambulance where he was sadly pronounced dead.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s family at this difficult time. The vehicles involved have been impounded as part of the investigation.

Under these circumstances, and in keeping with best practice, the BPS has self-referred this case to the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) in order to ensure independence of the investigation.

The Professional Conduct Unit of the BPS will keep the PCA apprised of all developments as they are established.

The investigation into this fatal collision, the 14th of 2017, is being led by Inspector Robert Cardwell and Constable Jason Ming of the Roads Policing Unit.

The police are encouraging any witnesses or anyone with information to contact the investigators on 247-1788.
