Female Senior Citizen Pronounced Dead After Car Crash [Updated]

Police and other first responders attended a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision that took place around 4:34pm today (Friday) in the area of Barnes Corner.

It appears that a 70 year old woman was driving a car when it  appears that she lost control of her vehicle and hit a tree. This resulted in the woman being taken to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The 70 year old woman was pronounced dead at 5:55pm.

No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.

Update: Sunday, May 6th - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 84 year old Lois Simmons and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Ms. Simmons – initially said to be 70 years old – was hurt in a single vehicle car crash that occurred around 4:30pm Friday, May 4th on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with South Road, when the vehicle she was driving struck a tree in the vicinity of Barnes Corner.

She was transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment but later pronounced dead.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s loved ones at this difficult time.

Police are not currently classifying this incident as a road traffic fatality, until cause of death has been determined by an autopsy.
