Tue, 2019-10-15

Quick action by a member of the Bermuda Police Service today thwarted an escape attempt from the Magistrates’ Court.

Thirty one year old Howard Ascento was in court for breaching a domestic violence protection order.

Upon learning that he would be remanded into custody, Mr. Ascento vaulted the secure holding area and ran from the court room, pushing past a police officer.

However, a second police officer pursued and detained him before he was able to exit the court building.

The 31 year old was handed over to Department of Corrections’ staff to be taken to the Westgate Correctional Facility.

He is expected to reappear in court in due course.
