Driver Arrested, Two Injured After Front Street Collision

Around 1:10am today (Monday, January 29th) police and first responders were dispatched to a reported collision on Front Street in the City of Hamilton, near the junction with Parliament Street.

It appears that a car collided with a 41 year old Southampton man sat on a parked motorcycle and a 27 year old Sandys parish woman standing nearby.

Both were injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. At last check this afternoon the 41 year old man was in stable condition on a general ward, while the 27 year old woman had been treated and discharged.

The male car driver was not injured and arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

Update: Investigation Into Robbery at Belvin’s Variety, Smith’s Parish

On Sunday, January 28th police responded to a robbery at Belvin’s Variety in Smith’s parish where a male gained entry and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with any information is asked to contact Sergeant Hayden Small at the Criminal Investigation Department on 247-1744.

There is also CCTV footage of the incident circulating on the internet. While the footage provides a good description of the suspect(s), police did not authorise the dissemination of the clip. We are looking into this further with a view to understanding how the footage got into the public domain.

Update: Motorcyclist Injured Friday Night Listed as Stable in ICU

At last check this morning (January 29th) the 51 year old Devonshire man injured in a single vehicle motorcycle crash along Somerset Road in Sandys parish, near the junction with Morgan Hill around 9:40pm Friday, January 26th was recovering in stable condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
