Around 3:40am on Sunday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Somerset Road in Sandy’s parish near the junction with the Railway Trail (Somerset Bridge area) involving a car and an auxiliary cycle. It appears that the car was traveling east on Somerset Road and the auxiliary cycle was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the cycle, a 17 year old Warwick woman sustained cuts & abrasions to her legs and feet. The driver of the car, a 54 year old Sandy’s parish woman, was not injured. Both vehicles received moderate front end damage. The 17 year old Warwick woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The victims, a 66 year old Southampton man and his wife, a 66 year old Southampton woman, stated that at 9:50pm they arrived home and parked their car in the driveway. At 10:10pm on Saturday, Police received a report of a robbery at a Rose Hill Road, Southampton residence. The victims, a 66 year old Southampton man and his wife, a 66 year old Southampton woman, stated that at 9:50pm they arrived home and parked their car in the driveway. At that time, an unknown man approached the car brandishing a weapon and demanding money. The Southampton man did not give in to the suspect’s demands and was punched in the face, sustaining a laceration. The assailant then grabbed a black bag containing a DVD and personal items from the back seat before making good his escape. The victim declined medical treatment. His wife was not injured.

The Bermuda Police Service is aware that motorized mini bikes are being used on the island’s roads, parks and on the railway trails particularly in the Khyber Pass and Ord Road, Warwick area and the Loyal Hill, Devonshire area. These vehicles are often ridden by young children; however these bikes are not licensed or insured.

Attempted Burglary-Around 11pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of an attempted burglary at a Warwick guest property. It appears that an unknown man, brandishing a weapon and demanding money, attempted to gain entry into a cottage on the premises. However the male occupant of the accommodation shouted for help and the suspect made good his escape empty handed.
